This new year has brought a new member to the SOJA Board who are eager to address your desires and concerns for the organization. Please join us in welcoming the following board members.

President: Miwa Russell

I moved to Southern Oregon from Seattle in 2012. I’m very happy to be a part of this organization where I have met many great friends. My goal as president is to continue planning events that are fun and celebrate Japanese culture.

Secretary: Tomomi Mori

I am honored to be your SOJA secretary!  I enjoy spending time in the outdoors with my family and I also enjoy cooking and baking.

Treasurer: Sayuri (Sai)

Japanese Language Education

Kara Baylog

ロードアイランド州で生まれ育ち、日本において留学生・会社員として住んだ経験もあります。日本語学習を通して南オレゴンの国際交流・コミュニケーションを支えたいと思います。娘や息子に二ヶ国語が話せるように日本語を教えています。

Originally from the east coast, I’ve lived, studied and worked in Japan before moving to the west coast.My primary inter-est is improving cross-cultural communication through community Japanese language learning. I have two children who I am raising bilingually as a non-native Japanese speaker.

Seeing the world was my dream, I did it. Now I wish to help bring some of the culture I surrounded myself with to share with the people of the Rogue Valley.

I enjoy learning about Japan and Japanese culture and customs. I will do my best to contribute to and promote the SOJA community so that we can all share and enjoy our connection and heritage.

I moved to Ashland from Tokyo in 1985 and I’ve been living here for 35 years. I became a SOJA member because I wanted to express how wonderful Japanese culture is.
